The 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League entered Matchday 9 last weekend and stretched to Monday evening as Lobi Stars Vs Bayelsa and Kwara United Vs Rangers wrapped up round 9 of matches on Monday evening.
Here are the top five things to know on the Matchday as the actions, thrills and drama continue in the league.

Relief For Amokachi, Amuneke
It was a weekend of relief for both former Super Eagles coaches, Daniel Amokachi and Emmanuel Amuneke as both coaches propelled their team to a rare victory to ease off pressures.
Both coaches have struggled to get results as Heartland FC and Lobi Stars have been languishing in the relegation zone since the beginning of the season.
Heartland FC scored three big points against early season title contender Remo Stars, courtesy of Peter Afolayan’s lone strike. This catapulted Heartland to 16 on the log with 9 points and a -3 goal difference, which is good enough for the team to float above the relegation waters.
Daniel Amokachi also picked his first victory of the season after Lobi Stars defeated Bayelsa United 2-1. This was reassuring news for their teeming supporters, who believed he had the magic wand to retain the team in the league at the end of the season.
NPFL Hammer Falls On Kano Pillars
Kano Pillars lost in Lafia against Nasarawa courtesy of Anas Yusuf’s lone strike, as the leading scorer scored his ninth goal of the season.
But the drama was around poor officiating with Ahmed Musa leading the criticism of the match officials the NPFL has come up with a fine of two million naira against Kano Pillars for the behaviour of their players, which the body claimed is a breach of the NPFL framework, hence brought the league into disrepute.
Also, a player of the club, Ugochukwu Gabriel was slammed with a nine-match suspension for his unruly behaviour in the match.
Rivers United, Elkanemi Stay Unbeaten
Rivers United failed to capitalise on a man advantage against Elkanemi as both sides settled for a 1-1 on Sunday in Port Harcourt.
The result means the two teams remained Unbeaten in the league after nine games while Rivers United extended their stay on top of the table, Elkanemi have continued to show why they are draw specialists of the season as they recorded their seventh draw of the nine weeks old campaign.
Ossy Martins, Sadiq Abubakar Hit Brace
Ossy Martins hit another brace of the campaign on Matchday 9 to help Lobi Stars defeat Bayelsa United as one of the star players of the week.
Another player who displayed efficient marksmanship in front of goals is Sadiq Abubakar who scored twice in Plateau United’s 3-0 thrashing of Kennedy Boboye’s Sunshine Stars.
Tornadoes’ Super Run On The Road
Niger Tornadoes continues their great form on the road as the team picks another 3 points on the road.
Niger Tornadoes defeated Bendel Insurance 1-0 at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium to pick their second victory on the road in five matches.
The team also drew two others and lost just one, to amass 8 points the same as Rivers United the highest on the road.
Only El-Kanemi Warriors have scored more goals, 7 goals, on the road than Niger Tornadoes with 5 goals
