'Sad' - Atiku’s Aide Reacts As Nigeria’s Public Debt Hits N87 Trillion

A former spokesperson for the Atiku Campaign Organization during the 2023 Presidential election, Daniel Bwala, has accused Nigerian governors of orchestrating plans to destabilize the nation’s democracy.

Naija News reports that Bwala’s statement follows a lawsuit filed by 16 state governments at the Supreme Court challenging the legality of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Bwala, who was once a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), believes this legal action reflects a broader agenda by governors to weaken democratic institutions and governance.

He criticized the governors for neglecting their responsibilities at the state level and shifting the burden of governance onto the Federal Government.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Bwala stated, “The governors in Nigeria, they are making concerted efforts to destroy this democracy.

“I have said when President Tinubu started, when these allocations started moving; when nobody was looking at the responsibility of the federating unit in administering governors, when all pressures were pushed and directed at President Tinubu.

“I said that we have taken our minds and attention from the fact that this allocation we are talking about – the majority of this allocation – goes to the state. The development is at the state level and local level and nobody cares to look at governors and probe them on their affairs
.”

Bwala went on to accuse some governors of being behind corruption in the country, which has fueled their efforts to abolish the EFCC.

Recently, calls to disband the anti-graft agency have intensified, with the Supreme Court scheduled to hear the case today, October 22nd.

The EFCC’s Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren, responded to the governors’ push, stating that their desire to scrap the agency stems from the “heat” they are feeling due to its anti-corruption activities.

He warned that Nigeria’s survival would be at risk if the EFCC were disbanded.
