NASS Leadership To Convene Meeting With Tinubu Regarding Ongoing Killings In Benue, Other Regions

The presidency has called on the heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to comply with invitations from the National Assembly, emphasizing the importance of a collaborative relationship between the executive and legislative branches.

Naija News reports that this appeal follows recent warnings from the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions, which threatened to issue arrest warrants for officials who ignore its requests to appear.

Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Senate Matters, Senator Basheer Lado, stressed that cooperation between government branches is essential for fulfilling President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The President’s Renewed Hope Agenda is built on the premise of quick and efficient governance, one that brings tangible democracy dividends to the people without delay.

“A critical part of realizing this vision involves a proactive, respectful, and transparent relationship between government bodies and the Senate in its oversight role
,” Lado said.

He acknowledged that while scheduling conflicts may sometimes prevent MDAs from promptly attending Senate hearings, it is vital that these invitations are prioritized to reflect a commitment to accountability.

While we acknowledge that competing official engagements may sometimes make it challenging for agencies to respond promptly to Senate invitations, it remains essential that these opportunities for engagement are prioritized to demonstrate our continued collective commitment to accountability and good governance.

“Engaging with Senate committees is an important opportunity for agencies to showcase their dedication to public service and accountability, while further reinforcing the people’s confidence in government
,” Lado added.

He reaffirmed his office’s dedication to facilitating effective collaboration between MDAs and the National Assembly, particularly with Senate committees, as a fundamental aspect of responsible governance.
