Moses Simon has expressed his optimism regarding the Super Eagles’ chances of securing a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, even in light of their difficult start to the qualifying series.

As it stands, the three-time African champions find themselves in a challenging fifth position in Group D, having accumulated only three points from four matches played.

To enhance their prospects of reaching the World Cup finals—set to be co-hosted by Mexico, Canada, and the United States—Moses Simon emphasizes that the Super Eagles must win all of their remaining six qualification matches.

In an interview with BBC Sport Africa, the 29-year-old winger said, “We have the quality; we have what it takes to win. We don’t believe that we are not going to the World Cup. In the last qualifying games, we missed key regular players, and I firmly believe they’ll be available next year to support the team.”

Meanwhile, Super Eagles caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen is preparing to finalize a 25-man squad for the upcoming 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Ghana.

This decision follows two rigorous phases of training camps held in Abuja, where a total of seventy players from the domestic league were evaluated to identify the most talented individuals to represent the country.

According to reports from SCORENigeria, the chosen players will enter a close training camp in Abuja after the Super Eagles complete their 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Rwanda.

The home-based Eagles will travel to Ghana for the first leg of the CHAN qualifier, which is scheduled to take place between December 20 and December 22. The return match will be hosted in Abuja one week later.
