Three people were reportedly killed in a recent clash between operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and bandits in Katsina State.
Reports obtained by Naija News revealed that bandits invaded Unguwar Batsaka, a community in Jibia Local Government Area, during the weekend, killing three residents and abducting an unspecified number of persons.
Spokesperson, Katsina Police Command, Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed in a statement that officers were deployed to the area and foiled the bandit attack on Unguwar Batsaka, quarters in Jibia township.
Sadiq further noted that six kidnapped victims were rescued, while one other succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained during the incident.
He disclosed that the foiled operation occured about 11:25 p.m., following a distress call received at the Jibia Police Division.
According to Vanguard, a resident of Jibia who requested anonymity had earlier reported that the assailants stormed the area at about 11 p.m. on Sunday, shooting indiscriminately and causing panic in the community.
“The bandits were many, and they moved from house to house, shooting indiscriminately. Many people, including children, were injured. They also took several others to their hideout,” the source revealed.
He further revealed that as of yesterday morning, the precise number of individuals taken by the bandits in Umguwar Bachaka remained uncertain.
In a related incident during the early hours of Friday, a group of armed bandits on motorcycles reportedly killed two individuals and abducted 13 residents from the village of Mai Bakkon Dan Auta in the Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Reports indicate that a member of the Katsina Community Watch Corps was among those who lost their lives in this attack. Among the abducted individuals was Alhaji Imamu, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Mai Bakko ward.
As of the time of reporting, their locations are still unknown.
Naija News understands that both Sabuwa and Jibia are among the local government areas significantly affected by the activities of bandits in the state.
