President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominees are scheduled for Senate screening today as part of the confirmation process.

According to Vanguard, the nominees, who have received clearance from the Department of State Services (DSS), were seen at the office of Senator Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, yesterday to submit their CVs and meet the deadline.

Ministers from the portfolios of Education, Trade and Investment, and Livestock were among the first to submit their documents earlier in the day.

Senator Lado confirmed in a statement that documentation for the nominees has begun as part of the screening and confirmation procedures.

The statement read: “The nominees were already submitting relevant documents as first in the series of procedures for the screening and confirmation of ministerial nominees.

“The nominees are expected to be screened and confirmed by the Senate in compliance with Section 147 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (As Amended).

Naija News recalls that President Tinubu requested the Senate’s screening and confirmation of seven ministerial nominees, a request conveyed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read during plenary last Thursday.

The nominees listed in the letter are as follows: Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment; Bianca Odinaka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development; Idi Maiha, Minister of Livestock Development; Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State for Housing; and Dr. Suwaiba Ahmad, Minister of State for Education.

President Tinubu urged the Senate to expedite its review and confirmation of these nominees.

Following the announcement by Akpabio, the Senate referred the president’s request to the Committee of the Whole for prompt consideration.

Akpabio stated, “Distinguished colleagues, the presidential request is referred to the committee of the whole for consideration very soon.”
