Two Kano Shari'a Court Registrars Suspended

The Kano State Judicial Service Commission has suspended two Shari’a court registrars, Jamilu Ibrahim and Zubairu Sulaiman, due to allegations of misconduct.

Their suspension was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the spokesperson for the Kano State Judiciary, Baba Jibo Ibrahim.

Ibrahim noted that the suspension of the registrars was executed following the findings of an investigative committee that looked into the claims made against them.

The statement further indicated that while Jamilu Ibrahim was recommended for dismissal, the Commission opted for an indefinite suspension without pay, pending the resolution of the legal proceedings he is currently facing in a Magistrate Court.

The Commission emphasized its commitment to enforcing suitable penalties for any staff members who violate regulations, particularly those in positions of judicial responsibility, to maintain the integrity and accountability of the Judiciary and to foster public trust.

The statement reads, “In its 75th meeting held on the 12th day of September 2024, the Kano State Judicial Service Commission has taken disciplinary actions against two Court Registrars of the Sharia Court Department.

“Sequel to the findings of the investigative committee set up by the JSC to investigate the petition against Jamilu Ibrahim and others, the investigation revealed that Jamilu Ibrahim, along with a syndicate, were found to have received illegal funds emanating from a writ of possession that was fraudulently obtained to sell two plots of land.

“Similarly, Zubairu Sulaiman, Registrar of the Upper Sharia Court, was found to have received one million naira into his account as a sales commission from the sale of the two plots of land. The Judicial Service Commission, acting upon the recommendation of the investigative committee, has suspended Zubairu Sulaiman for four months without pay.”
